Listen to MP3s on your cell phone

By: Mark Busta – GOB Circulation and Merchandise Director

You might not own an iPod or an MP3 player, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t still listen to our nautical audiobooks on-the-go!

Many newer cell phones double as MP3 players and can easily accommodate audiobooks. My own phone is a Motorola MOTOKRZR, to which I added a 2 GB MicroSD memory card. This amount of additional memory will support at least five audiobooks. I also purchased a Mini USB Data Cable and software driver disc to connect my phone to a PC (this technology is at present not supported on Macs to my knowledge, except perhaps onto an iPhone). Memory cards and data cables are available from your phone manufacturer, service provider, or many aftermarket retailers.

To find out if your phone can play MP3s, and to learn how to load our audiobooks onto your MP3 compatible phone, see your phone’s user guide. If you no longer have your user guide, you can find most online by checking with your phone manufacturer’s web site.

To make things easier for you, we’ve compiled a list of links to the top cell phone manufacturers, with directions on how to find your cell phone’s user guide.

And for those of you who own a Motorola MOTOKRZR, we have detailed directions on how to transfer MP3s to your cell phone.
